thankyou for your kind words , but rememberwe are audiophiles and we are never satisified , lol !! ps i purchased all my stuff used !!

One of my carts is the AT-OC9ML/II and for the price I think it a good value, but I wouldn't doubt that you could benefit by moving a bit further up the scale than that, as that would be IMO a starting point.

I had good luck moving from a low-mass, rigid turntable to a heavy suspended 'table. I picked SOTA, but there are others. Was surprised at the extra "oomph" I got in the bass which balanced the detail and high frequency sparkle that the LOMC carts were providing.

The AT OC9 carts are a good starting point for LOMC. I found better warmth in a vintage Dynavector Ruby, but the AT ART-9 is on par with the DV and available new.

For three dimensional sound, don't underestimate the importance of room treatments and speaker placement. Time and $ invested there gave me the biggest single lift in sound quality and let the equipment changes I made show their best.

I picked up a Dynavector 20x2L a few months ago and it pretty much spanks everything else i have including my AT-OC9ML/II and Ortofon 2M black or bronze by quite a bit. It has a live and in your room sound to it i just love it. I am using the Dynavector P75mkll phono pre and they go hand in hand, throw in the Marantz 8b and it doesnt get any better for me anyways. and i did say WOW the first time i heard it and quite a few after

Well I could talk you into all sorts of stuff, but lets try this first.

Look at my thread here
Acoustic Sounds, Analogue Productions, Quality Record Pressings

I don't know if you have really good, what I call true audiophile records, but sound quality all starts where the stylus meets the grooves.

And yeah a SOTA Star with a SME 309 arm will improve vinyl play back. However again it's all about building up your front end and getting very good records.

Things I like with my mac gear...
SOTA Star Sapphire.
SME Series V arm,
Sumiko Blackbird, or Blue Point EVO III
SOTA Phono Head Amp

Very good records from companies like Analogue Productions, Sheffield Labs, MFSL, DCC, Classic Records.

There is VPI Prime on eBay for a little over $3K. Though cartridge will cost extra - you can start with DV20x2L mentioned above.

You know they have been making "true audiophile records" records for decades, the problem lies in that they were mostly focused for classical music listeners. When the pressers were really coming into their golden era the majority of the music that AK listeners enjoy today and in the past was considered a fad a genre that wouldn't be around long. I recall my parents and my grandparents claiming rock was just a passing fad for those rebellious youth. Look at all the cutting edge pressings of the past, all classical music. Little did they know how wrong they would be.
