There are a few suspect solder joints and a few burned components on the board.....strange the amp had full performance.

Solder connections -most definitely -- Few burnt components .. Unlikely ..And still perform close to spec.. Yeah right.. These babys go into melt down when they go south.. ie " chernoybl "

Unless it was a burnt out lamp..

Trivia : The M-80/85 is not a dual mono design like some people think. Just because of two power transformers. One transformer supplies power for the positive rails and the other for the negative rails. So both transformers supply power for both channels.

I'm both a Yamaha and Kenwood fanboy.
I believe the Kenwood L09M also has two transformers; one for the positive and one for the negative
I don't know how important that is aside from bragging rights

Temporarily stymied here looking for the last puzzle piece T-85, but promise I'll make (at least most of you) proud with how I emit "Natural Sound" from this crazy Barn of mine.

What a great time watching the shop throw the M-85 on the bench (not literally), hook it up to all the laboratory gadgets and watch it work! With very few exception the very good news is that every single thing works from idle to full bore. So cool the shop had all the M-85 specs on the PC screen in seconds, and all were in perfect spec as purchased. There are a few suspect solder joints and a few burned components on the board.....strange the amp had full performance. Got to 330WPC before clipping.....I think that's the term used. A bit dusty as expected and normal??? rust on the power supply? And on top of mine, starting to be remnants of the damping pads nowhere near as clean as the ones here.

Shop says the rust is no big deal as long as I don't accelerate it near a humid or corrosive environment. But I don't like the crispy old pads. I want to clean at least the tops and put some Dynamat on them or something. any thoughts or experiences here would be appreciated.

The goofy speaker wire terminals were discussed, and recommended to me that they be replaced with a banana jack kit from Speaker-Terminal.com. Looks like $111.56 USD plus whatever tax and/or shipping and $100 shop install. I bought these for my MX-1000 and can honestly state they are of very high quality. Although I installed them myself and saved the labor part, they were and still are the best choice for me even at their $111.00 price tag. Base is Aluminum and solid build. One of the A terminals was broken off the MX, but after I got into the amp I seen the C terminals were cracked inside. Was so glad I bought all sets before I started the project. Also, mine shipped from Germany, it was about 3 weeks to get to me. Something to keep in mind.

As a side, I have another MX 1000 who's terminals are fine, but have in mind when I get ready, I will be replacing the terminals with these from Speaker Terminal. No question about it.
