Thanks for the explanation. I never knew all that. I couldn’t afford TOTL equipment back in the day and quad was definitely out of my price range.

If you have a computer with a bluray player it's even easier. You can rip surround bluray/dvd's & play them back via your PC if you have multichannel outs. A lot of releases include original quad versions as a bonus, plus newer 5.1 surround.
 
If I were a younger man and not on a fixed income I would probably explore the quad experience. I appreciate all the information though!
 
Heh. I was about to say, that's about a 2003 price. And if I had a time machine, there are many things I'd give priority in utilizing it for over buying gear at lower prices. Most of which I best not speak of publicly...
 
I really can't complain. I got my 8080DB for free. It works. I cleaned all the controls and fixed the Dolby board. My son is trying to extricate it from my collection. He'll have to wait a few more years.....
