Talk to me about ADS L780/2

I stumbled on to a mint pair with the optional stands. Buying them without listening as price is great.

I’m a huge fan of my ADS 300, OLA and upgraded BA T830s. I really like AS design speakers. Using a Sony TA F700ES to drive. Mostly jazz and some folk, classical and rock cds and vinyl. Lower to moderate volume typically.

Am I gonna love these?

Allow me to play Devil's advocate: I own a pair of L-780/2's that will be buried with me, but only because so much of my sweat got poured into them before I spent more time listening to the larger models (L-810's, 910's, 1230's , 1530's). I'm not impressed with the smaller "improved" midrange driver of the 780's and preferred the larger domes in the models in parentheses. When I finish that time machine I'm tinkering with in the shop, I'll go back and get a pair of 810's for ManCave2.
If you get the L-780/2's, stay away from the bigger models as it will irritate you forever. NOTE: I also wasn't happy with the low end, even in the cramped confines of ManCave2, so I had to make some custom powered "bass augmenters" for them (pictured).

Would love to see a picture of the 780 stands (of all things). Think these are the F7?

The 780/2 is a fine speaker, just be on the lookout for corrosion around the woofer where the surround contacts the frame. They used some sort of corrosive glue at the factory. @Porkloin, did yours have this problem?

Here's one example from this thread. This isn't a 780/2, but it's the same symptom.

I DID think the rust on the woofer baskets was a bit weird for something that spent it's life indoors. I brushed it off and primed/painted. Mine was nowhere near as bad as your example pictured.

My stands seam to be working well .....I agree that staying away from their big brothers is a good idea.......but if they find you, you can tell them I'm looking for them.

Passed on the ADS. One mid wasn’t working/damaged. Also, lots of rust around the woofer frame. Thx for replies

Too bad, but keep looking. If you get the opportunity to grab one of the larger ADS models, do it!

Hear-hear. Nothing smaller than an 810. I know, I know, the 810's are supposedly too "boomy" when compared to the 710's, but I've A/B'd them in a 15 X 25 living room and the 810's filled the room more effortlessly on the same receiver. If you could lay hands on a pair of 910's, you'd belong to an exclusive club that last I heard, had some sort of merit badge associated with it.
