Tandberg 3002 A Re-cap

So on a whim, I pulled out my Tandberg 3002 A preamp today and swapped out my Perreaux SA3. The Tandberg sounded like absolute crap. Very dull and uninspiring. I am thinking of recapping it to see if it breaths some new life back to it. Has anyone here undertaken this project? Any tips to share? What are good options these days for replacement capacitors. Not looking for boutique options. Just comparable to original or a bit improved will be fine for me. looking for value, not status.

Thanks for any and all input.

I think I'd check it for high frequency response, and see if there isn't something specific to fix, before doing a wholesale recap. IIRC there are also some internal adjustments, and deoxidizing the RCA jacks and switches/pots etc. would fall under typical maintenance that might make more of a difference sonically than you think.

Thanks John. You are correct about cleaning. Have you cleaned the volume pot on one of these? I seem to remember reading that they are not the easiest to clean.

If it has the black square stacked section/sealed pot in it, yeah those are fun. I typically desolder it from the board, then loosen the two screws that hold the stack together so I can get some deox spray into each section.
