Tandberg 3041x motor torque

Hi

I've been working on a Tandberg 3041x, recapped and sounding really good; the problem I'm having is with the motor.

I thought it would be a case of a new belt and rebuilding the clutches, but I've been having problems, and it is actually working worse than before I removed the old pads and belt. Sometimes I get fast-forward and play till about halfway; then the reels come to a halt; other times, it won't even get going with the reels on like there isn't enough power to get going. I've cleaned the motor, which helped for a few hours, but then it seems to have given up again. I've cleaned the springs on the pressure pads.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated; it's driving me a bit mad.

First: control the adjustment of clutches on both sides. The workshop manual describe adjustments. If you use clutch segment of wrong size it is not possible to have it to work correct. This is not so easy as many think

I've played around with the clutch adjustment screw on both sides and followed how it appears in the service manual. I've attached a photo of the homemade clutches; they seem to slip quite a bit.
