Tandberg 4038 Preamp door stuck in open

Hello!

Anybody who can help me with a problem I have with my beloved Tandberg 4038 Preamp? After 18 years of marriage, my dear wife tried to operate my stereo, and in a mysterious way she managed to open the front lid, that covers the control buttons, too far. It went beyond the two metal pins on each side, and now it is impossible to close it (the pins block the return of the lid). I see there is a screw above each pin, and I tried to unscrew them with the hope of being able to move the pins so that they no longer block the closing of the lid, but to no avail.

Are there any Tandberg masters out there that know how to fix this issue so that I can close the lid again?

What happens if you press and hold the "open" button and see if the door closes? They got the damned door on somehow!

Ouch! It's a good thing I keep my 4038 upstairs in a room where my wife can't get to it (she can get to the room but too much stuff on the floor between the door and the 4038, lol).

I have not had to address that issue with any of these, have worked on a few but not see that problem so no hands-on experience with the mechanism. I can try and take a look at mine at some point and see if the solution can be worked out.

Pressing the button doesn't help. It seems to me that the two metal pins are preventing the door to close. Not sure what my wife did when she opened it, but she must have opened it too far so the pins got out of their tracks.

It should be fixable, with some ingenuity. But if not, remove it. Hidden controls are merely stylistic; many amps make the knobs/switches a feature. Not and ideal solution for sure, but seeing the controls (which are small and elgant) is far more aesthetically pleasing than a busted door hanging open and rubbing your nose in it every time you look at it.

BTW, I'm a big Tandberg fan, both sound and design. I use their 3000 series — great sonics with elegant looks.

I see no pins' in pic. however, I think I see four phillips head screws for a face plate? Why not as wife how she got it open? (in a non accusatory fashion.)
