I have a Tandberg Series 1800 StereoReel to reel tape recorder, its a good unit and im happy with the sound, I was thinking of selling and getting a TANDBERG 64x or 74b Strereo , would like a cross field machine of this type that has 7.5inc per sec . my Series 1800 only does 3.75 inc per sec. Anyone have any experience with these recorders and how they compair to the quality of my 1800. Thanks.:D

If you're not hung up on a tube unit, the 9000-series crossfield decks have excellent sonics.

To record on with modern tape, CrossField is not recommended. None of those machines can bias modern tape. And backcoated tape isn't CrossField friendly. Get a later model Tandberg machine.
