Tandberg TD20A SE recording issue

Hello

I just got this deck.
When I try to record on it at any speed there is a high pitch clicking noise that sounds like a static discharge. It happens every second or so. the bad thing is that it transfers to the tape and gets recorded.

Prerecorded tapes play without any issue

What could be the cause?

You have one of the best decks in your hands. You need to do a cleaning (deoxit and faderlub) and exercise many times each control (tape / source, volume, tape selector, all the panel switches.) Do it several times to clean the oxidation. This deck deserves

Thank you for reply, but I think you misunderstood my issue. the static noise is not happening from control movements.Controls have been cleaned and work perfectly,
It's happening during recording when controls are not even touched. It's happening at a steady pace, like one click per second.
I am not an expert but it sounds like there is possibly a blown capacitor that discharges every second or so.

Now I understand better. More likely to be capacitor even. What I can say is that it is worth a recap, as this Tandberg is of very good sound quality. I have Revox and several other brands and Tandberg has a very refined sound quality. Good luck

If you are trying to use acetate backed tape static can be a huge problem. Polyester is the tape to use.
