Tandberg TR2060 & 3036a & L100

Hello fellow AK ers I need some of the Tandberg specialist expertise

I currently have a Tandberg TR2060 paired with a set of JBL Century L100's and would like to drive more power to them so I have the opportunity to purchase a Tandberg 3036a for $300 which I have done research and the price is very fare and the owner insures me that its 100% functional which he is willing to demo but I'm cautious on a couple things

#1 will this bump in power open up the L100 to their full potential?
#2 will this be a good match with the TR2060?
#3 If the amp does require repair or adjustment are their parts & knowledge of this Tandberg equipment
#4 or should I just leave well enough alone ??

The TR 2060 doesn't have pre outs, so using it with the 3036A is a non-starter.

Setting that aside (though to me it pretty much answers your question), power increase is from 60 WPC to 100, but the two also have quite different amplifier topology. The TR 2060 is a conventional bipolar transistor design and uses the older metal housing TO-3 transistors, the 3036A uses TO-220 plastic housing/metal tab FET's instead.

Personally I don't like the 3036A a lot, but that's probably because one tried to shoot me in the eye while I was working on it. I still have that thing somewhere, but am in no hurry to work on it again anytime soon. And, I like working on Tandberg gear but I'd much rather service a TR 2060 or the larger TR 2080 (or TR 2075 predecessor) than work on the 3036A. I do have some other 3000-series amps: 3003, 3003A, 3006A, 3026A and I also would take any of those over the 3036A.

YMMV but I'd pass even though the price is fair as you said. I don't think the improvement in power is worth dealing with the 3036A if it gets cranky, plus it's not going to run your whole system unless you also add a preamp.
