Tang Band w8-1808 in front loaded horn?

I noticed in the PE reviews for this driver that one user said he had some success using it in an Oris front loaded horn. I have four of these drivers sitting unused and was wanting to experiment with them in an OB MTM configuration using a BG Neo 3, but I'm also a sucker for horns and have never tried one of the "big" horns. Seeing that someone has had some success using the 1808 in a front loaded horn made me wonder what other suitable front loaded horn options are out there besides the Oris. Or is this even worth spending time and money investigating?

I've played with an 1808 in an Oris also and it works great.

I also have a friend who is running the 1772's in a very old Jensen horns. He's running it as a mid, rolling out on the low side at I think 250. Runs it up to something high (maybe 8k?) where he crosses to ribbons. He is very happy with it used that way.

I've been running a stack of 1808's OB for somewhere towards 5 years now and I love them!

Every situation I've heard them in, either of those drivers, they always sound like great performers. Quality drivers and a bargain compared to what other top choices cost!

Other front loaded horns....not many options out there...

I should've known you've tried this. Seems everything I'd like to try with my 1808's, you've already done!

Where did you get your Oris horns? And how low were able to get them to play?

Ha..ha...Michael. I've tried a few things for sure. They're good enough to be worth doing things with. More than anything, they've been so good that I tend to like to just listen more than anything!

I got the Oris from a Ebay ad from a guy in Atlanta several years back. I was able to pick up a Welborne crossover that was specifically for them. It's been a long time, but I think it was at 200-225? 3rd order maybe? Can't remember off the top of my head right off.

I also played with a Lowther EX-2 in the Oris. It was certainly good, but those warts show up with those that even with trapping were still not completely smoothed out. Sooo....in both those and in OB, I prefer the 1808's on a whole as they don't have to have any trapping or eq for me at all!
