Tangential? Or high end Denon? Doubts.

hi good people,

On the hunt for a sort of decent sounding, but also modern looking and convenient second deck for my living room, where I have no place other than a wall shelf.
I can get a Technics SL J3 for 50 £ or a Pioneer PL L800 for 200£ . Both are tangential and look smooth/flat to place in the living room.

Else, i can go other way around and nominate my Yamaha P750 TT to be the secondary and get a big bro for primary listening but these would cost 600£ , either a DENON DP 67L with both arms, or an Ariston RD 40 with SME 3009 arm.
The DENON I heard/read a lot about and love the design and the auto stop, but would be worried about the fiddly electronics , the ariston I have no clue about, just like the look and the arm should be decent I guess.

Opinions please. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to AK. I used to own an Ariston RD-40 and it was a very good table I had a Sumiko MMT tonearm on it that was finicky , I think an SME would be a very good match for it , the Denon is an excellent table as well .

Here’s a picture of my RD-40 when I had it .

I'm partial to Pioneer tangential trackers as I own (2) PL-L1000s. But in my humble opinion, of the three you've shown us I would probably select the Ariston and move the Yamaha in for your 2nd.

Just my $0.02

If the Technics works properly, 50 pounds is a lot less than 200 or 600. Those Technics record size tables are surprisingly good sounding, and since you apparently are looking for a second table, it doesn't make sense to blow the budget on it, especially since looks matter - in the modern vein, the Technics is quite nice, to my eye, though I wish there were fewer shiny buttons. I like Aristons and Denons, but 12 times the price cools my ardor.
 
LOL. I'm struggling with the same darn question. I currently have Revox B-790 and B-795 tangential tracking turntables. They're excellent, subject to proper cartridge selection and alignment. But, I would love to at least audition a Denon DP-59L or similar.

I live in the SF bay area and have a docile disposition, if anyone would like to volunteer a listening session of their kickin' Denon turntable.

OP, I doubt you would have buyer's remorse with either direction.
