Tannoy 609's

Restless

Hello AK'ers.

After a long road of listening and looking and asking a ton of question on this forums and reading reviews and more, I've bought a pair of Tannoy 609's. It was quite a journey as I've driven 250 kilometers en 250 back for them. They were from the first owner and are in near mint condition.
My last speakers were the Wharfedale Valdus 500 which are good, but had to much mid's and bass.

The Tannoy's sound much more neutral, a powerful and deep bass, which truly surprised me and a lot of detail! I'm hearing stuff on my music I didn't hear/notice before and it is wicked! I can't wait to play my entire library through them. I've been mixing it up with the genres and trying everything, but mostly it's on the bass heavy side and I have no complaints there.

The drivers look in really good shape, and it looked like he was very careful with all his stuff and took really good care of them.

Thanks everyone for answering loads of question!

Ps:
Only thing I'd like is to get the glass top cover out of it, and replace it (an acquaintance of mine makes stuff out of glass and what not). Would anyone know how to do it?

Congrats on getting your first Tannoys. Mine were 12" Golds and I was instantly impressed with their bass to go along with the detail present in the rest of the frequency spectrum. Since getting them I have also acquired Ardens with 15" driver and the bass is incredible w/o overwhelming the total sound.

I was looking at the Ardens! But due to size and money I went with the 609's.
Does the Arden sound better than the Gold?

Cingrats on your tannoy's they a lovely sounding speaker did they come with the matching stands

Yeah they did! Is it possibly to replace the brown top and bottom of the stands? I want to change the colors around a little to see what works haha.
And, can I upgrade this in any way? I've got the MK1. I was thinking extra damping? Is it possible to use to much ? And maybe change the cabling?

Gosh, would love to hear them, great score.

They sound AWESOME, I was listening to some Michael Jackson with "Wanna be starting something" and I heard a LOT of stuff I NEVER noticed before! It's like I'm hearing it all for the first time!

And I find the price very very reasonable for what they can do, amazing bass very deep and powerful, I can only imagine a 15" Tannoy!!

I recently acquired a pair of 609s. They sound magnificent, woofer powered with a Nikko Alpha II, and the tweeter with an ond Electrohome tube receiver.
How can you tell whether it is the Mk I or the Mk II?
