Please forgive me if I'm posting in the wrong place, I'm new to this website.

Hi all, recently I have acquired some Tannoy 615's from the Tannoy sixes series. Other than some technical specifications in the manual, It has been difficult to find any in depth reviews of these speakers. It seems to me like many major audio review websites seem to just have forgotten about this amazing speaker from what I have (or should I say Haven't) seen online.

Both work fine, other than one of the 8inch "Mass Tuned Passive Cone" is cracked on one speaker. I have been unable to find replacement parts online, or even a serial number anywhere on the broken cone driver itself. I may have to get it repaired by a professional as the "polyolefin co-polymer" which is the material the cone is made from seems outside my novice repair abilities.

Does anyone have any information about these speakers? Price? Experiences? Quality? Any info or opinions about these speakers would be much appreciated.

Excellent speakers, those Six series models. I believe Audio Critic and Audio magazine reviewed them very favorably. I recall Sensible Sound said they sound much larger than they look. I think I have the reviews around somewhere. They were not cheap when new. Perhaps you can search here on Audio Karma for tips on repairing your passive radiator cone? If you do it from behind the cone, it may turn out just fine. Congrats on getting some great Tannoys!

Ill attempt to research more and fix them, as I want to learn more about speakers in general and such. And thank you! They were a steal as my friend was clearing out his dad's possessions and gave them to me for free. I told him the price afterwards and he told me he didn't care and to keep them. Lucky me!

I have a pair I’m parting out, or selling as a set. I blew the tweeters. So if your interested in parts let me know. It’s hard to find these parts, as they are old models.
 
Brogan, there is a Vintage Tannoy Facebook group you could join for more info. Sounds like the difficult aspect is that the surround is an integral part of the cone on the drivers. ? Don't know about the MTPC.

I blew the tweeters out on my 609s, too. Managed to actually fix one, but the other is toast. I wasn't sure if it was caused by my P[o!]S Audio 6.1 preamp fritzing out (and causing me some nasty shocks when I decided to try using it as a passive pre), or the fact that I listen to loud orchestra music (like Rite of Spring) at loud volumes.

After soldering the contacts of the tweeter voice coils, I can say they aren't the most robust design or implementation. Which is a shame, because they sure sounded good. That review absolve2525 posted is right on - brassy, but in a good, audiophile kinda way.

These weren't a write off, though, as I use them as the woofers for a pair of Alternate Audio planar/ribbon speakers I recently acquired.

Great sounding woofers (mine have just the one 8"), and they seem pretty indestructible.

FWIW, before I got the planars, and after the Tannoy tweeters blew, I used the Tannoy woofers (yay for bi-wireable speakers!) with a pair of NHT Super Zero mini speakers (one of the best high ends of any cone/dome speakers I have ever heard), and it sounded really good.
