Tannoy Cabinets

I have a pair of Tannoy Devon speakers that have 12" HPD drivers. The cabinets are way too small for the drivers. At some point I'll build birch cabinets for them. My plan is to make them relatively tall and skinny to get enough cabinet volume for good bass, raise the tweeters to ear level, and have them fit in my smallish living room.

As others have suggested, you could probably have someone build you better cabinets for the same money you'd pay for the ones you're looking at. Let us know what you do.

Based on what people are saying here, I am starting to have my doubts. Hm. I already have a pair of rather nice cabinets, well-designed and made of 3/4" mdf. My desire to change to these vintage cabs is pretty much because I love the way they look. I don't want to downgrade in terms of sounds though....

I've decided not to purchase, but I am wishing I could still own them :(

Decided not to, based on the possibility of not providing optimal sound, and also the rather high cost.

Maybe I will look into alternatives now.

Any progress on this?

Well they remain in the cabinets that my brother built of MDF and are carefully painted. They look and sound pretty darn good. I think that I was seduced by the look of the vintage cabs, but there's little consensus on those cabs offering sonic improvements. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" was my guide here. Staying put for now...thinking of a recap on the crossovers, might really help.
