Tannoy DC 200 tweeters missing

HI AKers!

Id been wanting a pair of the early 1980s Tannoy DC 200 speakers for a while and finally purchased a pair second hand and had them posted out to me.

I was devastated to find that upon opening up the woofer to take a look inside, I found the tweeters are from Philips. I cant find any info on the net to see what the original Tannoy tweeters would of been - model number etc.

Does anyone know of a suitable Tannoy replacement or a model number for the originals.

These are the dual concentric types.

Thanks

Ouch. This is what the original tweeter assembly should look like:

BTW, this picture is from a DC2000, but I believe it used the same tweeter horn driver.

Gordon.

Return them, that’s absolutely ridiculous. Tweeters for these are very rare and very expensive
Yes I would like to but the shipping cost would be too much and the seller gave me some money back as he was unaware of them not being original.

We fixed a pair like that using an eminence APT50 driver and a PVC plumbing flange from Home Depot, Cost 60$

They turned out amazing sounding.

Years later he found a pair of original drivers but didn't like them as much as the Phenolic drivers so sold them on ebay for 350$

Ive found some tweeters from a DC 2000, which I believe is the same tweeter used on the 1000 and 3000 models. How can I find out more exactly if that tweeter will work for my Tannoy DC 200's? It doesn't have to be the exact tweeter, but if its similar and sounds similar, that is good enough for me.

This is the specs for the DC 200

You should start searching for Tannoy HF driver for Tannoy Dual Concentric Full Range System Type 2025GG / 2025GL / 2525GG / 2525GGG:
7900 0156 Tannoy HF driver kit
or

I've found some tweeters from a DC 2000, which I believe is the same tweeter used on the 1000 and 3000 models
Yes, you're right. Same HF drivers are in Tannoy DC1000, DC2000, DC3000, System 8 NFM, NFM-8 DMT, System 10 DMT

Awesome thanks for your help. I will have a look for those models. Do you think the HF drivers for the DC 2000’s will work well in my DC 200’s?

T Somerville, I'm sorry  I thought about Tannoy DC1000-DC3000, but in the first message you said you've got DC200. So, my previous answer is wrong.

Tannoy DC200 speaker is built on 10" Tannoy 2588 driver.

8" Tannoy 2008C, 8" 2008S and 10" Tannoy 2588 has kern-integrated "ogive"-like HF waveguide, not "tulip".
Yet I don't know exact part number of HF driver for Tannoy 2588. BTW, the original Tannoy HF drivers for Tannoy 2008 / 2588 have the same round frame as yours replacement drivers:

Ok thanks for the update. I dont mind if the replacement drivers aren't the originals but it would be good to at least replace them with a Tannoy HF driver.

Im wondering if its worth a gamble buying the HF drivers from the DC 2000's and see/hear how they go. Or is what you are saying the DC 2000's style HF driver wont fit into my 10" 2588 driver?

It's probably best to look for the appropriate driver, I doubt the fixings will be the same as yours are 10" and the DC2000's are 8" keep checking UK eBay etc, occasionally you see NOS official tannoy replacement parts here, got a friend a replacement tweeter for his Tannoy 605 this way, even had the original Tannoy box.

Ok thanks for your help. I will keep an eye out and hopefully a pair finds it way to me.

Dc2000 ones may fit but the dc200's have a seperate inserted horn section .I have one spare tweeter, same as you got a pair fitted with neo tweeters but at least had one original tweeter in the box. Are u still searching for these?
