Tannoy M20 Gold Mk2

thefragger

Certified Crazy.
Found these on bin day at the curb... was driving down a side street and one set of lesser speakers caught my eye, so I kept driving and I spotted TANNOY!

Jumped out, grabbed 'em, and was on me way.

Only after I got home did I find that a woofer was seized-- you can tell that the VC exploded :tears: But the cabs seem to be in good shape and of decent quality... maybe they're be a project for something later, or should I strip 'em for the binding posts? (I already put the syringe I found inside into a sharps container)

Take a look at that burn mark on the back; I figure someone rocked these out HARD

Almost looks like an Advent shaped woofer.

Could be fune setting these up with new combination of drivers. Or have VC replaced :scratch2:

Blast from the past! I've got some parts on order and plan to use these as a base for launching my first speaker build project.

I wouldn't worry about putting them back together. The woofers look identical to those used in the DC series. They look better than they are with the gold painted frames, but are really just a stamped-frame woofer with an average-sized magnet. They certainly don't go very deep and power handling is limited. At least, you have some nice cabinets to work with.

I personally have always had a soft spot for Tannoys - esp. the 8" concentric studio monitors. Nice find!

The studio monitors you mention are most likely what are known as the System series, fine speakers and much better than these.

You're right - I looked up the "System" series - used to listen to them several days a week over at CNBC... Tannoys have a certain panache.
