Tannoy Oxford Gold. Worth it?

I live in Ottawa and someone is selling the Tannoy Oxford Gold speakers without grills for $250. I noticed the centers of the woofers are pushed in. Person said he was able to fix one with a vacuum? Worth it?? Can I find grills for these anywhere?

As long as the voice coil wasn't damaged when the cap was pushed in, it should be a good price. Can you listen to them before you buy?

Yes I can listen to them before I buy them. What would be a telltale sign that they are damaged besides the obvious, no sound or crackling?

Listen for a rubbing sound, sort of like crackling but lower in frequency. Imagine metal being dragged across gravel, that would be an indicator that the voice coil has been damaged.

Tannoy made its reputation on their coaxial speakers, with the tweeter firing through the woofer and using it's conical shape as part of their horn.
Their more standard two ways seem to have a good reputation, but I would not assume that the Tannoy aura engulfs them. They need to be evaluated as any other two way would be.

Those look very similar to a pair I once had. I'm in Ottawa as well. If you hear anything that sounds off, that would be a sign of damage. Also bring your own music on your phone as well as a way of hooking it into an AUX port of his amp. I recommend you choose a variety, but at least one song that will push the system. You want to bring out any issues before you buy them, if they are there. I like Sade Love is Found for that.

Nope, I just checked. Mine were Stratfords. There is also a guy in Ottawa who can fix them, for a fair price. Let me know if you are interested in his contact info.

$250 is too much IMO even if they were mint.

I'd maybe give $125 if they were mint, damaged like they are, $60 tops.

What people are prepared to pay and what they ought to pay (comparatively, compared to what else they could get for the same expenditure) are two different things.

People pay over the odds. It happens. Especially in hi-fi. Plus it's very much a buyer's market right now.

I just stated what I would give for them, based on 40 years of buying and selling used equipment. O/P is free to ignore.
