Tannoy spares

Hi all

I'm posting this In desperation, I have a pair of tannoy precision 6.2, the main 6.5" drive unit has failed in one of them, I've been trying to get in contact with tannoy which is now actually 'music tribe' since before Xmas to see if I can get a spare unit for this £1500 pair of speakers.

It appears tannoy customer service is now non existent, no phone numbers, don't answer emails, don't respond to care tickets created basically no way of contacting them,
does anyone know where I can get spares or have any info for contact with tannoy/music tribe......?

Just had this response from 'music tribe (Tannoy) safe to say Tannoy as a brand are dead and will not be getting another penny out of me, Fyne Audio it is......

That is bad news for all Tannoy clients. The current owners seem to have lost interest in maintaining a relationship with this historically famous brand. The repair of a faulty speaker does not always require factory spare parts, with the exception of (such as) damaged cones or burnt out voice coils. You may have to find a skilled speaker repairer , I appreciate that this is possibly a case that should be covered under the terms of the warranty and that is a service that should be conducted by the store from which the Precision 6.2 were purchased. Hopefully the situation can be sorted at a minimum cost to you.

It is indeed worrying, I brought my first pair of Tannoys as a school boy some 24 years ago and there still going strong, as seems with most things in today's throw away world things just don't seem built to last..... I have been in touch with a repair shop here in the UK, seemed quite hopeful until I mentioned it was a dual concentric driver that was the problem...... To there credit someone from Tannoy has been in touch following a post on FB and is doinf hiss best to get the problem resolved, hopefully he will confirm tomorrow.... Until then everything's crossed.....

Your situation sucks, especially since the speakers aren't that old of a design. But this is not unexpected. Many of us have run into similar issues, many with speakers made by manufactures that no longer exist.

There's still a lot you can do, what markings are there on the woofer with issues? Does it read open on a multi meter? Or does it just have damaged spider/surrounds etc?

Were you able to get anymore info about the woofer from Tannoy? Such as who the OEM of it was? Or it's TS parameters?

Dual concentric woofer/tweeters are not impossible to work on. I, and many on here have repaired our own due to NLA replacements. The hardest part is getting the tweeter back in, and centered without dragging on the woofer. But once you separate the woofer and tweeter. Both can be repaired the same way as traditional drivers.

That's good to know but I wouldn't know where to begin to repair it myself..... To be honest I haven't even taken the driver out of the cabinet yet as I have been waiting for a response from the manufacturer and didn't want to cause any damage trying to get it out, its not obvious how it actually does come out of the enclosure...... Although I've since been advised the metal surround SHOULD just prise off to reveal some screws, I've still got everything crossed Tannoy might be able to sort something an illusive driver perhaps....?

Music Tribe is Behringer so from that you should not expect much in serviceability.
I have a Behringer CX3400 crossover that managed one hour of use then went into dry storage for a few years. On firing it up again it has a catastrophic fault in the PSU. Needless to say Behringer showed no interest at all in this poor effort .
You've been warned.

FWIW when Tannoy were at Coatbridge in Scotland their after sales service was exemplary.

Funny when I think of Tannoy I think of the big 'ol 15" Silver/Reds concentric speakers they were using at Abbey Road and similar studios at the time for playback and monitoring. Easily $10K a piece speakers. For them to not support these type of drivers anymore is a real letdown.

I would second the opinion of trying to find a competent, and most important, experienced speaker/driver repair tech. There is a much bigger city from me, about an hour's drive, that has the only repair guy near to me capable of even attempting something like this. Might have to look a bit further than you originally think...

Hope it works out!
