tannoy speakers help!

Hi, new to this forum and just wanted some help. I am looking at getting some tannoy speakers but have two choices with very different price tags.
The first are the Tannoy 12-HPD and the second are the Tannoy 12 red. The Reds are almost 2.5 times the price of the HDG.

Is there that much of a difference? What is the better bang for the buck? Is there anything special I have to know?

Thanks so much for your help.

Bang for the buck, would not be to buy the Blacks/Silvers or Reds
but if bought well they will always sell for more than other Tannoy's
due to the vintage nature of the early products.

Can you hear a difference, perhaps but its up to the buyer to decide.

get the hpd. But if they have deteriorating surronds. Then look at a minimum of 250 for surrounds...dont know if they have rubber surrounds or not.

Thanks for the input..what would be a fair price for a pair of the tanny 12 hpd with foams intact and nice cabinets?
Thanks again

Tannoy's of old are more about being collectible and preference then about sonic performance. The new tulip guide dual-concentric such as the 3833GG 15" (DMT 15 II) kick ass to any other older Tannoy by specs and by sound.

Ofc some people to their ears prefer the older paper cone pepperpot Tannoys.

IMO to have best of both worlds and bang for the buck go for the Tannoy Golds. Cheaper, more of them outhere and just as good. Especially the LGM (Little Gold Monitors) or SGM (Super Gold Monitors). Also best best recommends for the DMT 15 II if you can find it.

If your just buying the drivers alone unless you are crossover/cabinets knowledgeable I'd recommend not going that path.

there is a pair of theTannoy Cheviot speakers, . Original 12in gold series drivers with butyl rubber surronds and hand coating around edge of cone.
what would these be like?

thanks a lot
