Tannoy srm 12x is an update to KEF reference 103/4?

Hi everyone!

Had a short listen of Tannoy srm 12x few weeks ago, for the 2 minute listen i had they gave me a really good impression so I was browsing the ebay the previous day and came up to Tannoys srm12x for 1/3 less the price the local guy offered.

I was just curious what you guys think and if you consider these Tannoys as an upgrade over my Kef reference 103/4. Maybe someone had experienced both of these and could give some info.

The Tannoy is much more efficient so can more easily produce concert levels with less stress and distortion. That said most KEFs can reach lower than this particular Tannoy model in a conventional box. Building a box with complex tuned labyrinths is a real challenge to extend the bass. Both speakers are point source speakers, but having the extra efficiency saves monies spent on amplifiers,or allows you to upgrade amps for the same monies spent for an amp to power the KEF to the same levels as the Tannoy. KEFS from that period were a little to bright for me, but part of what I was hearing might have been caused by the Marantz receivers of the time. Tannoys I heard were bright,too, but I blamed that on the the Threshold amps used for the audition. One of our customers had tannoys with Mac old MC 60's and the Sound was very good.
