Tannoy Stirling Orphan - Thoughts??

Making the thrift rounds today I came across a orphan Tannoy Stirling speaker. It's beat a bit and I was unable to test it but it's gnawing at me that I should not have walked away from it. Doubt I will run across another so I'm sure I would be stuck with it as a orphan. Anyone know these speakers well enough that you can help me decide?

Except for reputation, I'm totally unfamiliar with Tannoy - and that's exactly the reason that I would have bought it, orphan or not!

I've never heard them, either, but reviews of the Stirling match reputation, efficiency is pretty high- I'd buy & clean up, source a mono tube amp and place in a room that'll benefit from nice ambient audio.

Like Garcia says, make yourself a nice mono hi-fi. Mono high fidelity is relaxing, gets the image monkey off your back and makes you concentrate on the music itself. Or not. Anyway with mono you can sit wherever you want, lie down on the couch or whatever.

Or simply clean-up an flip to feed other fun. Nothing wrong with that when these things come along. Someone else might have use for it and folks will go to great lengths and distances to acquire their Tannoy's. Kinda harder to come by here in the states.
Heck, the driver in that alone could be worth $1500.

Aargh.... You all are making this a challenge..... :D
Of course that is why I asked. I appreciate all the feedback.

I don't really buy gear to flip it but probably for what I could get by parting it out I could pay for some projects.

The idea of a mono system is what really has my interest but I'm already out of room so not sure how I can fit it in but where there is a will there is a way......

If it was less than $100, it's a no brainer...
Get it, if it's,still there which is unlikely.

Pulling out of the parking lot with a combination of grief and relief as it has been sold. Hopefully a fellow AK'er will be posting about their score shortly.

Turns out you can do that with stereo too. My listening chair is dead center, the couch is more on the left channel side. Both are great.

I have a pair of Tannoy Devons that were a cheap pickup with a bunch of other gear. Very nice.

Oh my god.
You just lost out on a LIFETIME score.

I have had my share of lifetime scores so I can live with someone else having this one. I am typing this listening to another LIFETIME score - Rogers BBC Monitors ($35 with stands and connectors) and a Denon DRA-750 ($6 GW find)

Also this weekend's thrift hunting provided a few minor scores;

Monster Reference PowerCenter HTS-3500 MKii
Nick Drake-Introduction to Nick Drake CD
Tom Waits -Beautiful Maladies CD
Thelonius Monk -Straight, No Chaser CD
Pink Floyd- Works CD
Beatles-Help CD
Alan Parsons Project- Eye in the Sky Vinyl
Gerry and the Pacemakers- Greatest Hits Vinyl
Al Green- Greatest Hits Vinyl
John Coltrane- Coltrane Time Vinyl

All for less than the Tannoy and with money left to take my son out to lunch for his birthday. So I will shake it off and see what awaits me in the future at some thrift store....

I understand your point, being that i've found an incredible amount of rare stuff (including 2 pairs of rogers monitors) from recycling. But seriously if you ever hear Tannoy dual concentrics you'll understand what I mean about lifetime score, rogers ls3's don't even come close to what a good pair of dual concentric tannoys can do.
