Tapatalk has...issues..., to put it mildly. I removed it from all of the forums I manage a few years ago. It always bothered me how they fiddled directly in the database, bypassing any protections vB or XenForo had in place. One of the worst was when they bypassed all of the registration checkpoints, allowing spammers to bypass XenForo's registration system and allow them to create accounts and use them immediately without any confirmation. Their support system is weak also, and they've been known to issue new features without ever fixing the bugs in them. Many members were also annoyed by the "nag screens" which would pop up when they'd access the forum in a browser; the nag screen was supposed to go away after the first visit, but even there, that feature was never debugged.
I used to prefer ForumRunner, which did the same thing as Tapatalk arguably safer, but Internet Brands (who own what's left of vBulletin) bought it from the developer and killed it off. (Likely to promote their own expensive mobile add-on package.) The biggest thing I miss about both apps are the push notifications. There is a roundabout way to do it now, but it involves installing an app, and using a third party service that charges for the bandwidth usage. For a busy forum, it would get way too expensive.
Responsive view isn't perfect, but I do like not having to load more apps on my devices.
In Chrome, there is a neat way to add a site to your phone's home screen. And when you open it that way, the site will open like an app, with none of the browser controls being visible. (I believe you simply choose the "Add to Home Screen" selection from the menu.) I ended up creating new, larger icons that would look good as home screen icons. Works nicely!
