I should also note fulfillment of "tape deck lust" in a couple of other formats. Most recently a Pioneer CT-F1000. I drove to Idaho Falls to get it. We'll worth the trip.



And a couple of years ago, Sony EL-7 elcaset and a load of virgin tapes.

Local tech / restorer had a 701 for sale, $750, with a Pioneer takeup reel. $750 with a 30 day warranty.

Cool deck, I used them in my high school radio station, along with a pair of Teac X-3. Just got an X-3 for $100 that needs a little work, but it runs.

Pioneer CT-F750. Doubt its on anyone’s “want” list, but does what I need as far as tape goes and looks nice with the rest of my gear.

Picked it up several years ago for not much more than the price of a pizza.

Was also fun to tear it down and R&R it.

Wow I had one of those tape machines many years ago.

I have TEACs A-4070G and A-4300SX for stereo 4 track reel, TEAC A-3340S for quad 4 track reel, Akai CR-80D-SS for quad 8 track, Pioneer H-R100 for stereo 8 tracks, and a Nakamichi Dragon for cassettes. I may get a quad playback reel deck to go with the recorder.

I suppose I also have a General Motors 1972 8 track stereo unit in a car, as well.

I love these, you can use 2X speed and get awesome results, even though most players can't use the tapes. Cannot tell that it's a cassette.

The 1011, hauling the mail.... someday maybe

The bells and whistles don't matter for most users. The Pioneer 1011 is great for what it is. I use mine quite a bit to record or to play back low speed tapes. Unless you need quad or insist on 15IPS, the 1011 is a great machine, as long as it wasn't used to death. Mine seemed like it was hardly used, they probably preferred their cassette for convenience.
