Tapes do go bad

Well went to the stash,tested the tapes have 3 tapes won’t record,put on 3 decks no record.the are shamrock I got at a garage sale
In the 80s.if you,peg the volume you here music but can’t tell what is is it is so soft.well anyway won’t baking have any effect on
This or off to the landfill with them.

If they are Reel to reel tapes make sure that they have not been inverted by improper rewinding? ( The metal iron particles of tape facing the heads and not the back part of the tape). If they are cassette tapes make sure the tape pad is still there.
