Tascam 34B Repair Help Needed (Not Recording).

Hi all,

I'm very new to the world of reel to reel so please excuse any oversights or simple mistakes. I've just recently acquired a used Tascam 34B machine, and have replaced the capstan belt in order for the unit to play (the original was completely melted). I thought that this would be the end of my woes, however, now I've discovered the unit won't enter record mode.

It plays back perfectly fine, at the correct speed, fast forwards, rewinds etc. The repro head works, as I'm able to listen to what's currently on the tape through both sync and repro heads. The function/select switches for each channel all light up, but when I press the record button, the light doesn't turn on, and recording doesn't happen.

Any suggestions for how I could tackle this would be absolutely wonderful.

In the area of simple mistakes are you pressing record and play buttons simultaneously?

And you have the function select buttons pressed in for the channels you want to record onto? The LED for each switch that’s pushed in should be blinking until you hit record, then it should light up steady. Is that what happens?

Hahaha it was the simultaneous button thing. Coming from Pro Tools, I thought you could record arm and then play. Silly me… Thanks!!
