Tascam DA-30 MK1 Fault - Ejecting Tapes

Hi Guys,

I have a Tascam DA-30 MK1 dat player which has the following problem:
When a dat tape is inserted it loads the tape (until it is actually around the head) then straight away ejects the tape. I have changed the main drive belt but it has not solved this issue and have checked all the other belts but none seem too loose.

This is suppose to be a known issue with this DAT machine but I can not find any info on how to troubleshoot it online.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Looks like a safety interlock/switch problem, or an opto sensor problem. Either of these would 'tell' the deck that a tape is inserted before a function can be activated. Is the tape holder fully bottomed when you insert a tape?
In the days of the VCR, there was a switch that would engage as you lowered the cassette holder then the sensors took over.
Do you hear a click sound after you insert a tape and the tape holder is fully lowered?
 
I don't see the 2 guides extending on the video.

If guides on you deck really extend around the head drum, I would suspect the loading motor falling in security due to overload (too much effort). Probably dust or hardened grease.
 
Hi

I did not hear any clicking sound when the tape lowered but I did think the guides were a bit slow when trying to extend around the head drum.

If I recall I changed a few of the belts too without any luck then
gave up trying to troubleshoot this deck but will try again with fresh motivation and see what happens :)
