TCC TC-750LC preamp, vintage receiver or other?

Hi, I'm on the fence on what to buy as a pre-amp. The TCC TC-750LC BLACK Professional Moving Magnet Preamp has good reviews, and its price is decent, although I'm not going to put it here because of forum rules, but I'm sure most of you have an idea of what it costs. I have a nice Pioneer receiver so I don't need a vintage receiver for now, I just need the phono pre-amp section for my turntable, an Audio Technica AT-LP120. Would the TCC phono pre-amp be as good as the phono preamp in a vintage receiver or amp?

And as far as phono preamps currently sold as new, without going to something too expensive like the Cambridge line, what else is out there that is better than the TCC and not much more expensive? (Please don't post prices, just the brands and models). I do want one with volume control like the TCC (the professional model).

Art DJ Pre II - similar price to the TC-750LC I think. Some people prefer it over the TC-750. I don't have experience with either. Some other options would be Nad PP1 / PP2, Project Phonobox MM, the cheapest Rega preamp etc. Honestly I wouldn't know what would be the best of these or how big the differences in sound quality are, but I think you'd probably be happy with any of them, though as far as I know aside from the TC-750LC the Art DJPre II is the only one with some kind of gain / level control.

Then there's always the option of building your own, or getting chinese stuff from eBay, but if you're not a tinkerer and DIY oriented probably not a real option.

Maybe not a very helpful post but at least I dropped some names on you :)
 
Which Pioneer receiver are you referring too? Some of them have very nice phono stages, especially if it is properly restored.

Thanks, I had seen the Art DJ Pre II, but I can't stand the look of it, and I read posts from some people that they used to be good but not anymore. I'll probably order the TC-750.
