I have not got the deck yet the guy that's got it for sell told me that the play ff and rewind did not work.the unit does come on and light up.i was trying to find out what might be wrong.i thank the deck has 4 belts on it.thanks

are you saying the main belt works the play and ff and rewind.if that belt broke or came off that would cause the ff and rewnd not to work.thanks

well I just bought that one and should have in a few days.do you know where I can buy the belts for it.i would like to replace all while im into it.thanks for all your help

I agree.a friend of mine bought a new one in 1973 or 1974 and I always loved the sound on it.i hope I get mine going without much problems.does anyone know anybody that's work on the 450?

I worked on them as a warranty repair shop when they were new. Frankly, the A-450 was the one cassette deck that put Teac on the map. It was well ahead of its time, had built in Dolby and really did make great sounding cassette recordings.

Teac had had plenty of open reel decks by then but what makes the A-450 significant is that it brought good recording/playback to the regular consumer due to the price/performance it offered.

I hope this one's only need is belts, a good cleaning of the tape path and perhaps a head alignment. Check the head wear, though, as many A-450s were well used for the reasons above.

Cheers,

David

Purchased a full belt kit for my A-450 (and for my A-7030GSL, A-3300 and my TD150MKII too!) from Bob Toepfer at http://WWW.vintage-electronics.net

Fantastic service, far less expensive than European suppliers, excellent quality belts and they arrived within a week or so to the UK. Happy days.

thanks guys I got mine belts and service manual from the same place.thay seem to be a great place.ordered late one night and got the pdf manual download waiting the next morning.i payed under $30 bucks for the unit.the case is in great case the sides looks like new and the tape door has one small place on it.i to hope its just the belts.i looked at the service manual this morning and the belts install does not look to hard.i have a bottle of sewing machine oil I guess that would be ok to use one it.what do you guys thank?

Belt kits can be had from a number of sources but Fred Marrs is a place I get mine from. They are Japan made belts so they are higher grade. I think that this member has contacted me already so I need not go further other than to say that the belts are only the first level of maintenance. There is a lot more to be done to make these work for a long time. I have had one of these since I worked at MacDonalds which was about 1969. I had to pay $369 for mine.

Got a second one in the house!

Needed this like a hole in the head! Have one in the bedroom system. These are great decks. Nice big DC motor with no brushes. Like my Dual turntable motors, you can take it apart and clean/lube it. It's much easier to put belts on them. I hate working on cassette decks except this one. Did my first one about eight years ago. Just did the motor a few weeks ago. Bob Toepler above sold me the belts. They are easy to replace except the tape counter. I passed on the first one. Got another one off Ebay for 19 bucks. Seller said it distorted on playback. Funny how people today don't know they need to clean the heads! Will be placing an order with Bob for belts for the Teac and a Kenwood 1030 deck. My Pioneer CTF 9191 was a PITA to do the belts. Which is why the Kenwood has sat for three years. :thumbsdn:

Good luck with yours, if you need help with it PM me. Sold them new back in '73. Five hundred bucks. Great sounding even after 40 years. Have ended my day listening to the 450. Pic of my second one. Plays well no REW.
