Teac A-4010s Capstan motor not working

Hey, I have a Teac A-4010s that the capstan motor doesn't work in it. The motor is getting power, but its not spinning, its just humming(not audible) at a low frequency. Is there a motor controller in there that might need some repair? Or how would I go about fixing this?

Use the AK/Google search feature at the top of the page. No tape in it? Move the right tensioner to the left to activate the switch. Check capstan. It's belt driven, and may need a new one.
 
Jackyl - I believe I have a couple of parts and / or complete 4010's in my shop if you need parts, etc... I have collected a few over the years as spares.
 
One of the wires for the capstan motor will lead you to a large capacitor (D cell sized). That's the motor start capacitor. Good chance it's defective (open).
 
Well, I took it apart tonight and inspected it closely and it looks like it was in storage too long :( The capstan motor looks like something was jammed in it and wires in it are broken/frayed and there are several other wires that look like they have been eaten on. The VU meters were kinda messed up anyway, I'm thinking I'm just going to find a different one and put a belt on my A-1200u for now. I ordered a belt earlier today.
 
Can you see a part number on the motor? If this is the only thing wrong with it. I have a spare one. Mine has p/n 7102104000, 2.8/2.0 uF
 
I think you most likely have a bad motor start capacitor on your Teac. Capstan motors rarely ever have other issues on these machines. Do keep a good, fresh belt on one as the capstan is belt driven.
