I emailed the seller. It does need a little bit of work. I may end up trading a turntable for it. We are in talks.

Worked out a trade for a Technics SL-QD3 TT I had laying around. We'll see if it works out.

I'd guess hardened grease on the pinch roller arm for the slow startup.

I got this one fully functional with a box of 35 tapes for $100 off Craigslist a few years ago. It had been owned by an elderly gentleman in his 90's and only used for recording & playing back classical music since new. After a good head cleaning it was in perfect working condition.

So I met with the guy, who turned out to be very nice, we shot the breeze for a bit about our audio interests. He is like I was a couple of years ago, getting back into audio. He was given to Teac by a friend but is not really into RTR. But he had kept all his records from years ago and needed a TT to play them on. So we made the trade and the Teac is now in my possesion. Will post some pics and probably start a threat in the Tape area. Oh, it came like pictured in the add with a 7in tape and plastic take up reel.

So I hooked it up this morning and played a tape and the first time, the pinch roll did not move up to meet the capstan. I gentle nudged it into place and it played like a champ. Very nice, full sounding deck. Every other time after that the pinch roller worked fine, so yeah, probably hardened grease issue.

Looks very easy to get into compared with my Akai deck. Just remove a few small screws and the back plate pops off. First thing to do is clean the old grease from the pinch roller arm and relube. Then looks to the motor oil. I like this deck. Big and meaty!
