TEAC A-6010 Built in Amplifier

Greetings AKers,

I picked up this tape deck at an estate sale since this a popular deck. It needs the cables that connect the amplifier with the transport which I'm now sourcing yet I believe there's a bigger issue.

When I power on the unit the transport section appears to work as it should yet the amplifier doesn't seem to have power. No lights or action on the VU meters, no sound coming through the headphone jack.

I'd like to get this deck up and running without spending a lot. Any suggestions as to what I should check on the amp? I've looked at the obvious stuff like the fuses. If the amp is dead is it worth fixing? It's a nice complete deck I could part out if need be.

Thanks!

If the amp section is not connected you will not get playback. Plus may need to be connected to complete the circuit, why it may appear dead. Report back once you have the two connected. How are the heads?

Hi and thanks for the reply. I was wondering if the bottom half of the deck would come alive after connecting. I'm sourcing the cables and will let you know once it's connected. The heads are okay, definitely have wear but I've seen much worse. The deck came with close to fifty meticulously cataloged homemade tapes. It's seen a lot of love through the years like a good tape deck should. John

Talked to Tubesandmore and they don't have the cables. Since I already have another project deck I'm going to part this one out and help other A-6010 deck owners. I just posted it in Barter Town.

Just my 2 cents….
IIRC, the amp to deck connection cables are the same on the A6010 as they are on the A7010 and A7030, so it may be worth seeking parts for those before breaking what could be a perfectly good deck?

Yes, I hear you. My search for these cables so far is not going well. The time and expense in searching for old parts on the chance that a 50 year old deck is going to work seems like a fools errand. I also love old tape decks and have owned several. Until I hear from someone on parts I'll keep searching for the cables. John
