Teac A3340S - Rt Channel thump at power on

She works mostly like a dream. However, at power on I have to make sure all Right channel knobs are at zero or I get a big thump that quickly dies down. She has been belted, cleaned, oiled and demag'd. Changed out the input lines. Could Mr. Marantz be the culprit? The problem doesn't occur if I substitute the Cassette deck on "Tape 1".
I am not an experienced circuit chaser, but I am pretty good at reading values as needed. I do not have a "O" scope. Any suggestions?

Not that uncommon. Sounds like the power supply.
I turn the volume all the way down while changing modes or powering components on or off.
 
Why don't you try swapping your left and right outputs FROM the tape deck going TO the Marantz and see if the thump moves to the other channel.
 
Hi,
this could be Electrolytic Capacitor failure. There many choices here. 2 being either leakage letting DC voltages get where they shouldn't or there is a delay which should be muting such thumps until things have settled. I am familiar with Revox machines which generally have a relay that click in after approx 2 secs from power up. All voltages should be stable by then. This delay might have failed, again due to electrolytic cap failure.

A line of thought only as I am not familiar with Teac machines.

Don't believe TEAC used a power up/down relay in their circuits. Can you get ahold of the service manual?
As a last resort, turn your volume (gain) off while powering up or down.
