Teac AD800- CD "Side" Cutting Out

Hey all. I have a Teac AD800, the combo cassette/CD player. The cassette side works fine, but the CD side has an issue with cutting out. The disk reads fine, starts to play fine, then every 30s-60s the audio cuts out for a beat or two. It's not a skip. It's just like someone hit mute for a second then unmuted it.

Honestly, I'm not sure where to start with this as I'm not super familiar with CD player repairs. Most likely I'll have someone do it for me, but I would like to get some background on a possible cause first.
