teac c-3 / tascam 122 help needed!

I have a teac c-3 cassette deck that doesn't seem to be responding to any of the mechanism control buttons. I think it might have to do with it not recognizing that a cassette is inserted but the problem is I am not entirely sure how it detects this in the first place. Can anyone who has a tascam 122 (pretty mucht the same deck) or a teac c3 maybe help me with this? A description of how it works or a video with the cover of of the cassette being inserted would be absolutely fantastic. Thanks in advance.

I noticed but on my deck I can't seem to move the button. I checked the micro switch which I assume is connected to that part but even after soldering it and manual messing around with the wires it still changed nothing. Do you know which micro switch is supposed to be responsible for the detection? Or is it a combination of both.

OK, so I looked into this a bit further, the switch in the top left corner checks for the tab if it's a blank tape or one not to be recorded on.

The deck operates as normal without any tape inserted. I know that's not what you wanted to hear but it is what it is.

I mean I didn't want to hear anything in particular. If the deck is supposed to function even without a tape inserted that means I can look elsewhere. Thank you for the help.
 
Just a WAG here: Is your timer switch in the "rec" or "play" position? If the switch was in one of these positions at the end of tape playback, the manual tape function won't operate. This switch should be left in the "out" position.
Are the dbx shorting links in place on the dbx terminals? Unless you are using the RX-8 dbx unit, these terminals should be shorted or you won't have playback.

Yes the timer switch is on the out position but I tried playing around with it but to avail. Shorting links are also still in place.
 
You might look at the transport system...... Belts ok?. Any switchs that might need a bit of Deoxit. If you can get a break down picture of the transport system. might be something small and just need cleaning. I have a 112R that played a tape one direction and when it went to reverse it just quit. Nothing if you tried play, would not change directions. The head mechinisum was hung about halfway in between play and stop. A Dirty switch caused caused the issue...... Deoxit to the rescue... never hurts to look.
