Teac PD-H600 or Tascam CD-200

New CD Player: Teac PD-H600 or Tascam CD-200

Hey all,

In the market to get a CDP. I'm only interested in the transport to digi out as I have a PS Audio DIII DAC that I will be running to.

As I understand it, these two machines use the same Teac transport, which is considered by many to be pretty top notch for the price point.

I don't need any of the back end 'features' of either unit, so wondering if H600 is worth the extra coin, based on my intended use. I plan to purchase an Empirical Audio Pace Car Reclocker as well.

I've looked into buying JUST a dedicated transport but those are quite pricey in comparison.

Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated.

Backend system consist of Analysis Plus Digital Cable -> DAC -> Decware Zen TorII MK3 -> ERA D-14 speakers (to be replaced with Decware ERR Radials or HR-1's).

I visually inspected the two transports, and they are not identical. They may be similar, but are not exact matches.

The Tascam brand has taken a few lumps by some audiophiles, but others highly respect the design and build quality of the Tascam's transport, the TEAC CD-5020A.

I can't answer your question of what you should purchase- part of the H600 charm is it's internal DAC gubbins, and as you'll be opting for an external DAC, maybe the extra money isn't worth the added expense.

All I know is that the DAC is lovely!

Yes it is. The bass especially showed itself. Very 'analog' this one. Kick drums sound like they have that 15ips head bump, placed in your room all of sudden sound, reach out and touch em.

Yea, that's my hunch, splitting hairs based on my intent of use.

For the price of the H600, I can get both the Pace Car and Tascam, with probably no sonic gain. I respect Decware, obviously, and the Tascam is what he uses as a platform for his digital source offering. But I don't need all that he's offering or what the CD-200i has to offer either. I have an i-20 Pure, which bests it in that regard, and the upgrades in clock I'd be skirting.

Thanks for the replies.
