Teac x-1000r capstan motor running fast and uncontrollable

Hi guys, I need some help/advice with my teac x-1000r. Yesterday I finally got it to run properly on both directions from a problem of tape slack when playing in fwd direction only. Reverse play worked fine. Well as I was playing a tape I started to put zip ties on wires to secure and when I touched the wires from capstan motor all hell broke loose. The tape stopped playing and the capstan motor started spinning very fast and pushing stop did not stop it. I had to turn off the power to stop the motor. Now I need to see if anyone had an idea of what to check and what could have gone wrong. Any ideas or advice will be appreciated, Thanks

I gather the pinch rollers dropped when the capstan motor started running fast-as you stated that the tape stopped moving?

Did you attempt to run the deck after turning it off. Did the issue repeat?

How were you able to determine that the capstan motor was running fast? Could you have intended to state that the reel motor started running fast-not the capstan motor?

The tape will run fast if the pinch rollers drop-as the pinch rollers regulate the speed. With the pinch rollers not engaged, the reel motor will move the tape at roughly double the speed of normal 7.5 ips speed.

The reels stopped spinning even got a lil tape slack and I could hear the motor wind up fast. I put my finger on one flywheel shaft to confirm the capstan motor was running. After powering the unit back on and lifting tension arms the capstan motor will not spin any more

Sounds like the motor driver board has a fault. This is beyond me to suggest where\how to correct this. Hopefully, the motor itself is ok-just it's driver\regulator has a fault.

I did unsolder the capstan motor power wires and tested with 9v battery, motor still works. Sorry, I had to be at work at 5am this morning and couldn't reply

The capstan motor does run both speeds but runs even with tension arms down so starts running as soon as I power on the rtr. Any idea on what and where to check for that issue? Thanks

I have fixed the problem of the capstan motor running as soon as the rtr was powered on even with tension arms down. Transistor q154 was bad. Along the way when troubleshooting I found some cold solder joints and a bad trace that I repaired with some solder. Also I found capstan motor red wire had some spots that were bare of insulation and had made contact with the bare stranded wire that is also in grey insulation of motor wires (ground). There was blue painters tape concealing it. Im sure that was what shorted out when I touched them wires to secure them neatly with a zip tie. All resistors surrounding q154 tested good along with the transistors I tested out of circuit. Now when I power on the rtr motor works as it should. I am awaiting for a tentelometer I purchased to be delivered so I can check tape tensions before I dare to play a tape. I just wanted to give you an update and thank you for your time and advice
