Technics 1200 refurb help

Excellent thread....keep posting. You have inspired me to Frankenstein an SL-1300 I got raked on off Fleabay a while back. Was just going to keep it for parts for my other two 1300's but now......maybe another custom creation in the works during the slow winter months.

Nice job so far!
 
Your "rake" may end up being your favorite table!

BTW, what does "w/EEE - TT" mean?

Neat project. Can't wait to see how it turns out. I've thought about moving the transformer too, but never really looked into it.

Stanton 681EEE Cartridge. My favorite throughout the years since the very beginning....mid 70's.

You might be right...maybe the DIY on the beat-up 1300 will be my fave.

Good luck with yours....and unlike me....take your time and don't rush.

You know, all of those switches on the 1300 have a lot of aesthetic possibilities. You could use anything from dice to drawer knob pulls to aviator dials where the stock switch knobs are. The dice motif would seem to be the same style as your avatar, and any good knobs from that unit could still be kept as spares.

I got to thinking about your table and the task at hand. I have an old SGI tape-drive enclosure that I've been holding onto in hopes of some day making an op-amp but I neither have the time, skills, nor ambition at this point. I can't tell, offhand, what the size/specs of your parts are, but the enclosure is 6" x 9.25". The "guts" measure 4" x 8.5", with a height of 1.75" (all measurements are conservative). There is already a power supply port, an LED for power, etc. (all could be stripped out and it could be painted banana-yellow like your table. :yes:). It's yours if you'd like it. Here are some pics of the enclosure:

Boo you Mark. :D Please tell me, though, that you won't have the Steeler-yellow table with purple strobe-lights and pink DIY matting (based on another thread). That might be a bit much to swallow (but damn unique).

Funny you should ask. Just yesterday I was in Goodwill and found a set of yellow placemats made from the same material. I will be cutting one of those in the same fashion. With the open design of the material, some of the black from the platter will show through and it should look very nice.

I thought the connectors would be hard to find. They turned out to be easy. What I am having a hard time finding is five (or six) conductor 16 gauge wire. Alarm or sprinkler wire isn't rated for 120v. Any wire I have found for sale on the net is only in 500 or 1000 foot spools! Local suppliers... zilch.

I'm going crazy looking for this!

I don't know what wire gauge your new connectors handle but if you have some shrink wrap and Techflex, you could DIY a run of wires. I know Home Depot has a pretty good stock of the larger gauge wires. Check out the colors of this Techflex. Use the color wheel on the left side of the page to select "Jester JS".
