Technics 1210 mKII Grounding

Hi all,

First threat here. I've recently purchased a second hand 1210 mKII and took it apart to repaint it (the original owner had poor taste). During the dismantling, I noticed that there was no ground wire coming out of the tonearm with the RCA cables. After taking it apart, I noticed the ground wire is connected to one of the screws mounting the pitch slider.

1.) Is this normal?
2.) Will the turntable still function correctly?

As this is just for a small home setup, I will not be using any mixers or anything. just a pre-amp/amp.

I'm not an expert but having just opened one recently, I believe that wire is correct....but, it usually comes out of the side (the right side, below the cover plate, when looking at your photo) Once the wire goes inside the tonearm, it's suppose to connect to the ground on the PCB.
