Technics 1700MK2: cueing motor won't stop

Hello all,
I recently came into a Technics 1700mk2, allegedly in "perfect working order". I have found the small motor for the auto return simply wont shut off as long as the turntable is powered. With the band replaced(this forum was great for that), this causes the tonearm to be perpetually up and the auto return to pull the tonearm back to the rest, where it remains stuck up. I cant seem to figure out where the issue is, any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all and happy holidays!

I have the same issue, what did you do to fix it? Is there a "stop sensor" when the cue lift hits top or bottom?
