Technics 615 Stereo Cassette Deck - nice find - needs belts

Hi guys,

I just picked up this Technics 615 cassette deck today for the princely sum of $10 Aus including the original owners manual with warranty card, dealer info and service diagram.

It powers up, all lights work and when I press play the motor spins (I pressed my ear to the case and I can hear it).

The guy I bought it from got it from his dad who had it from new. When it stopped working he rang around and got quotes of $80 just to open it up and have a look at it, so he decided to sell it. It has a pretty cool sloping tape mechanism.

So I opened it up and sure enough, it appears to just need belts. It's VERY clean inside and in excellent condition so I'm hoping I can work out how to replace the belts and give it some new life :)

Any ideas on where to buy them from? What else should I do/check on apart from a head clean?

See if Marrs Communications can get you belts. This is a well built machine, should perform great with new belts. I love the better Technics cassette machines on average, this should be a nice machine once sorted out.

Well he's ruled out. Charging $38.95 to ships belts to Australia is highway robbery in my opinion.

I think I used Vintage Electronics in USA. That does look like a nice kit. Good to see an Idler wheel included. Good luck with the belting.

Hey guys, I didn't want to start a new thread because I'm using the same cassette player. But I have a different problem. When I play a tape the left speaker is going nuts. I know for a fact it is not my speakers or power source. Is this a simply open-and-clean fix? Everything else works great on this.

Greetings from RojoLand!

Please explain "speaker is going nuts." That could mean a lot of things, not necessarily involving your cassette player.

Also just noticed you did in fact start a new thread.

Take care,
