Technics 631 no speed adjustment….

115B8132-E1E1-4698-9044-6051D6F25744.jpeg I picked up an absolutely gorgeous condition 631 for $50 with the original box and manuals. Only problem I’m having is a plays tapes extremely fast. I have cleaned the pinch roller and capstan, replaced the one main belt yet even when I try and adjust the pot for tape speed it seems to have little to no impact on changing the speed of the tape. I am using the correct pot (VR201) so I know it’s not that. Could I have a bad transistor on the motor circuit? Everything works perfect except for play speed. It looks brand new and would love to add it to my system. As you can see it’s really in amazing condition save for the speed issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes there is an internal speed adjustment on the motor itself - usually a small slotted rubber covered hole on the back of the motor, with another pot inside. Especially if it isn't the original motor.
