Here's a few pics to compare the guts of an old Yamaha CR-820 and a Technics SA-5760. The technics is a huge brute!! The power supply and heatsinks etc are impresive!!:thmbsp: I used a water bottle for perspective. Anyone know where I can parts for the SA?? Enjoy!

Thanks for the looks. The SA-5760 was a TOTL unit and if I were to get into Technics, the one to get. CR receivers have never been in favor here, especially the MOTL models like your 820. They don't sound that good. Also, main caps mounted to a PCB is not a good design and where is the heatsink? Not good in a receiver that runs hot.

Holy crap those caps in the Technics are massive! What is their value? The Yamaha looks unimpressive in comparison. I like Technics, but the look of them is always quite understated.

I've got the SA-5560 and as far as size is concerned its a brute as well... but still just a little brother to the wonderful 5760!

Comment is superfluous.

That is one nice Technics receiver!

Hope you get that beast running soon! Sorry I don't know where you can find parts for that beast. Some parts I do know they are unobtanium.

I hope the tuner bracket(snapped!) that holds the wheel isn't made of Unbtainium! I have to ask him if he kept the parts so I can rebuild it! When I opened it up the wheel was sitting inside and he drilled a small hole in the side of the wood to change stations!!!:nono::tears: Other than that it looks MINT! I have to get this brute running so I can rebuild some EV interface's I have and let all hell break loose! ANYONE HAVE A DONOR???

You guys find me a donor sa and I'll give you the damn cr!!!!!!!!!!!!:D I'll bring it to the Fest!

The heatsink is the whole left side of the chassis and if properly adjusted I have never had a CR-820 run hot yet. The small fact that the comparison is being made between a TOTL and MOTL is rather unfair. Now if it had been a CR-2020.

BTW by 'here' I presume you mean your residence, Yamaha CRs have quite a following in AK.

If by slow amp sections you are referring to the 'attack' handling you should drop by and hear Fanfare for the Common Man on my CR-2040 and NS-690s, slow my arse.

Hey guys I didn't put this up to start arguments:nono: or pick on the cr!! I happened to have both apart and shot some pics I thought would be kinda interesting here! The sa looks friggin impressive but atleast the cr WORKS!!! All I had to do to it was clean pots and internals and restring the tuner! Hopefully I can fix the sa or get it fixed.

Exactly. You don't like there sound and you wage a personal attack on Yamaha whenever possible. Even to the extent of stating: :nono:

The OP is correct, this is not the place to wage the argument. I have explained my position elsewhere, please search and review my posts. And no, it is not personal but your comments are.:thumbsdn:

You will find the idle current adjustment details in a Yamaha thread here somewhere, makes a world of difference.
