Technics for $5?

Transition period ?

About the mid 80s companies started to produce rack systems. I had a Technics rack system back then, used proprietary ribbon connectors for each component. Its the age that produced Panasonic Thrusters, Fisher Studio Standard became synomous with cheap (square power button with a red line thru it) and people were 'Walking Like an Egyptian"

Oh yeah, i know the stuff .....

I have a Technics SA 425 that sounds great. It's a "New Class A", whatever that means.

The unit looks great and sounds pretty good. I can't find info on the thing, though.

OK, so this thread is 5 years old :D

I have an SA-425 I bought way back in 1982. Got married, it sat.

Just hooked it up to my 1982 Polk Monitor 5 speakers yesterday. The volume was noisy and scratch and loud, but 10 or 20 turns back and forth and it's back to normal. Didn't even need to De-Oxit.

Sounds great, listening to it right now! :music:

I think New Class A was a term used where it was Class A until the power went up then it used a variable bias:

Neat technology, no idea how effective it is.

It is a nice looking receiver. Wood panel sides, classy front.

I remember having a Technics SA-1010 that was an absolute monster sounding receiver. Had the funny looking holographic display. That thing could shake the house but it seems a lot of the New Class A gear ran extremely hot when cranked. Mine looked like this, wish I could find another one but I have read the heat issues warped boards near the holographic display???
