I was in the process of replacing the belts on the record/playback deck, but after reassembling all it would do was record. I cannot get sound to come out of it when playing a pre recorded album either. And suggestions? (Besides tossing it)

There's probably a long record/play switch that needs some contact cleaner sprayed into it, and worked back and forth some. Try that.
