Technics RS-TR 265 fix - any advices?

Hi there,
I am new here. Just started listening to tapes a few months ago and bought a Technics RS-TR 265 cassette double cassette deck. After a few listens, I heard it crackle and then the gear would not move anymore. I replaced one piece of broken gear (this is how it looks like: https://fixament.com/rdg5772zc/). So, that was successful. But I do have a new problem ever since: the engine just stops running after a few seconds (the gear moves perfectly; so I figure that they are not the problem anymore). Do you have any ideas? The belts seem to be fine, too.

not familiar with that transport, but try putting a beater tape in to test, there may be a tape sensor?

Thanks for your quick response. I tried it with a beater tape and the same mistake occured. Then I got somehow frustrated and took the whole thing apart again (including the belts)... and now it works. Didn't even clean a thing; Super strange. So I cannot say where the mistake was. Do you happen to know how to close a thread? Sorry that I opened one and after one hour already solved the problem…

I was given an RS-TR265 last year that had seen very little use and none since the 90s. Each deck worked great until I ran about 10 tapes through each and then the RDG5772Z idler gears started losing teeth. I don't have a suggestion to your current problem but if you run into the idler gear problem again, they are available from multiple sources. I got mine on eBay for about $20 a pair including shipping. Took about an hour to install, most of the time used to get the transports out and back in. Works good as new.
