Hi all,

I'm new here. I am looking to get a solid state 70s or early 80s era solid state receiver. I have my eye on a Technics SA-303 on Ebay. Can anyone tell me if it is a worthy purchase? It sells for $240.00 shipped.

I also saw a Mitsbischi R10 receiver on Reverb that is selling for $340.00 shipped. That is as high as I want to go. I hear those are good receivers also.

Both are refurbished.

Any thoughts? I am open to any suggestions. I know I won't be getting one that isn't at least refurbished, replacing caps and leaning switches and knobs.

I will be pairing with the Emotiva B1 speakers.

IIRC, they are close to or near STK0039s which I believe is able to use the RCS-50s (by our own RCS member) - someone worked that out.

so that in mind, its not a suck machine, looks nice and sounds nice with working amps. my restored price will be much lower, BUT if you add in RCS50's which are appx $90 a set right now due to fluctuating parts cost, 240 can be fair shipped. but there are so many of them, as the udder guy said above..look local. you dont say where you are but I am sure there are enuf live members here to point you to something cool if you just ask....
 
an SA 303 is a near bottom line of Technics. not even that good when new 40 yrs ago.
 
I had a used SA-200 that was really fantastic...really hot tuner and great low noise/low distortion amp section. Cosmetically she was a wreck but sounded better than great..

Different series than the OP has a line on, but I think his would be perhaps worth a listen...
 
I believe the 303 was newer. I used to PU Container loads of Panasonic/Technics from the Piers. Yet only Technics gear I had were the Turntables.
Preferred the Pioneer and Higher end JVC, Same parent Co Matsushita
The One Item I should have gotten was the extremely Rare SA 1,000. that TOTL receiver was the most powerful of all 330 Watts per channel.
