Technics SA-800 safty light?

Hey guys bought a yard sale Technics SA-800 for a song. brought it home hooked it up to some speakers and the safty light comes on? tried diffent speakers same thing? I am guessing this is a type of protection circuit? anyone have any experience with this. Maybe it is an easy fix? or not... thanks in advance........D

on some models when lit it is fine - if its flashing fast it may have tripped - other models it may be an issue - is there a click after 4-8 seconds?
 
yes there is a click shortly after it comes on. I am getting no sound from it. the tuner works and locks on to a station, but no sound, the safty light kinda ramps up in brightness if that makes sense? it starts out dim then after 3 or 4 secs. it is full brightness. thanks again for any help....D
 
Does it make any noises when moving the controls? Make sure you don't have the tape monitor switched in.
 
the fact it clicks, sound like theres nothing wrong w/ the amp - is there a pre out /main in patch on the back that has no jumper pins? - im not familiar w/ the 800
 
I dont get any sound. the tape monitors are switched off. tape monitors wouldnt cause a safty light. I am guessing the safty light is a protection circuit?? IDK....D
 
From the pictures I've seen, the safety light is green, and is on when things are working properly. There are fuses inside for speaker protection. Have you checked them?
 
Bet there's more than one fuse in that model. Don't trust the "looks" of a fuse. Check it with a meter.

If all the fuses check out, the next thing is to try the pre into another amp, then the amp with another pre.
 
With my SA-700 (virtual twin of your 800) the safety light comes on and that's a good thing. Everything should be ready to go. You have something else going on, maybe a really dirty switch. That would be my first guess. It is also possible to have fired output transistors and still have the safety come on fine....
 
My SA-700 was a $10 thrift score with no output, just like yours. Turned out to be dirty contacts in the tape monitor switches. Strangely enough, fiddling with it enough made the contacts clean themselves and pleasently surprised me with LOTS OF VOLUME!!!!!

More recently, the main speaker switch has developed an intermittent output in one channel. Playing with the button for a few seconds brings it back when it acts up.

Clean all your switches and you should get your output back.
 
cool thanks guys it was the tape monitor switch. cleaned it out.works great and sounds good too. Not a scratch on it I love my new $8 yard sale buy!!!!!
 
Just wanted folks to know I had the same issue for the last year. Thought I was tripping something internal and just gave up. Last night I decided to tackle it, saw this thread, used a little deoxit, wiggled the switch, and presto! Back in business! Thanks so much for sharing!
