Hey gang,
Looking at a TECHNICS SA-8100X quadraphonic receiver for possible purchase. OPINIONS NEEDED.

How does it compare in quad sound mode to other major brands of that era (mid 70's)??

Any particular sound output feature that makes it stand out above the rest??

Thanks for all opinions/info !!

I never owned one, however; it is a top of the line, well featured unit and includes a CD-4 demodulator as well as matrix decoders. Condition is everything when considering a possible purchase. If you are interested in quadraphonic sound, this could be a great unit to own. Good listening.

I wouldn't put it at the top of the line, that would be the SA-8500X (in 1976). It's a capable receiver, not terribly high-powered at 16 watts per channel (fairly common in 4 channel receivers back then). If you plan on using it for CD4 quad, it's as good at that as most others. However, for matrix quad (SQ, QS) it falls short - way short - of the performance of most Sansuis.

For two channel operation, I'm sure it would be more than satisfactory. For quad use, there's better choices.
