I just hooked up a used Technics SA-DA8 at my house and am experiencing the dreaded overload warning. I see this has happened to many people and could have many causes.
In my case, the warning appears if the volume knob goes above ~50%. Based on a bunch of posts about this, I decided to check and see if my old speaker wire is the problem. Disconnected the speakers from the back, turned it back on, and much to my surprise the overload warning still appears to be volume-dependent. I don’t understand how that could be possible without speakers to detect/protect. The unit works fine at lower volumes.
I’m not a tech head and definitely not an electrician, but can anybody help me determine what might be causing my case of Technics overload - and whether it’s fixable?

By the way, I’m running a pair of vintage 40-watt Jensen speakers rated 8 ohms (the receiver is 6). Never had a problem with them on any other receiver.
